You're missing the point, which is that alcohol use is positively correlated with the tendency to see friends socially, which could explain the finding being reported here.
Nobody is saying that it's an iron clad relationship and not drinking is preventing you from seeing friends.
- Godel_unicode 5y ago> alcohol use is positively correlated with the tendency to see friends socially Is there evidence for this, or is this just a gut feeling? I don't see my non-drinking friends less than my drinking ones. I had plenty of college friends who didn't drink and took great pleasure in messing with their inebriated classmates.
- tomrod 5y agoIt's an alternative hypothesis that aligns with current evidence, hence the discord.
- Godel_unicode 5y agoI have seen no evidence posted that corroborates this hypothesis. It's also pretty clearly not stated as a hypothesis, but rather as a fact which the upstream poster is "missing".
- tomrod 5y agoAppearances aside, until evidence or logic aligns beyond refutation, all assertions are simply hypotheses.
- TameAntelope 5y agoI can tell you from experience that the drinking friends did not look upon the non-drinking friends as fondly in all cases.
