If this research was tolerated and condoned, then what agenda is pushing for throwing good people under the bus? This regardless wether gain-of-function is a good idea or just too unsafe, which need expert record-keeping and analysis anyways. Seems like someone is on a witch-hunt, rather than for letting the man be allowed to answer fully. Let the one who'd like to be subject to such treatment cast the first stone.
