I took a Ukrainian class but this also applies to Polish:
The tip they gave English speakers for pronouncing "szcz", was that it sounded like the sh-ch connection between the words "Fresh Cheese".
Ironically, I didn't know how to pronounce it properly until then and it's in my last name! I always anglicized its pronunciation to "sha".
