  Being inoffensive and avoiding confrontation aren't the same thing. You can politely engage with people who don't see eye to eye with you. It's done pretty often on HN. If you delete your reply to this, I will try to delete mine and maybe the whole thing can disappear.

    Agreed, I recognized this after a few seconds of more thought. Tried to delete my comment but it wasn't possible, since it looks like your reply caught me before I could!
