For me the major inconvenience is having to add yet one more power adaptor to typically overcrowded socket outlets. I wish we had a common system of power adaptors that allowed to get some volts from already existing plugs! I reckon this wouldn't always work, but it should be possible to get the power required from a Pi Zero from practically any already existing supply...
- jjeaff 5y agoI have the same complaint. My standing desk already has about 6 different power bricks and a few more plugs all of which have to be carefully wrapped and stuffed into a cable keeper. The solution i am working on is that i am repurposing a PC power supply and then bought several high amp buck converters. I am wiring the 12v and 5v rails to the different buck converters to get the required 19v for my monitors, 24v for speakers, etc. All of this is a single unit much smaller and I can cut the wires to length to reach each device exactly.
- yurishimo 5y agoA few years ago, I saw these[0][1] on a daily deals site and I picked up a couple. There are a number of them floating around the internet and I'm sure some other manufacturer makes something similar. They work really well for a small(?) constant load. I use mine for a Chromecast because my TV doesn't have always on USB ports. My only complaint is that it's a little large, so if you have a tight configuration on a powerstrip, it might not fit with other bulky adapters in the adjacent slots. 0: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Twist-Charge-USB-Charger/33490454 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Twist-Charge-USB-Charger/33490454 (Walmart link because I'm sure it will stay around after they're sold out). 1: The meh.com listing with more information: https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-bracketron-twist-and-charge-usb-charger https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-bracketron-twist-...

- bobsmooth 5y agoBuck-boost converters can be bought for like $2. I'm sure the pi could have been powered off the voltage going to the button panel.
