The Rise of Olympic Skateboarding and the Debate over Skating Culture
- jackhalford 5y agoI watched the men's "street" skateboarding olympics. It's anything but street, a striking example is this street part from Kento Yoshioka [1] which is bursting with creative use of the actual street. In comparison, while technically impressive, the olympic event featured bland tricks done on polished rails and hubbas. The beauty of skatebording is mostly subjective, for example I prefer simple tricks executed with style, than hyper technical tricks. This point is madd in the Daewon Song documentary [2] 1: https://youtu.be/A6XKvmXdy0w https://youtu.be/A6XKvmXdy0w 2: https://youtu.be/fd-wbQJZs5w https://youtu.be/fd-wbQJZs5w
