The rising cost of rent, coupled with the desire for greater returns over stability, I just pushed a lot of small retailers out. I think this is also a problem of the walk-ability issue in America: it’s very hard to walk to anything. European cities Are easier to walk to the corner shop. Not so in America. If you are able to live in one of these walkable communities, it’s often too expensive to have something like a bookstore.
