I do find it funny that many US-Americans online joke about the UK having TV licence by asking if we "have a loicence" for various unrelated things, while the US seems obsessed with providing driving licences for all sorts of every-day activities.

- MathCodeLove 5y agoHaving lived in the US and the UK (as well as several other countries within Europe) for several years, I can say that in my experience the "license/permission to do X" is generally far more prominent in the UK/most European countries than it is in the US.
