I wish we could make these fad diets go away but there are just so many people who are willing to buy in this nonsense because they lost 10 lbs. Most of the time those people lose that weight cause they were on a regimented diet that contained less calories than normal, not cause the diet "works." My parents are currently all in on Keto right now and it's annoying. They constantly tout it's health benefits all while still being overweight. My dad spends more time watching how to do the Keto diet or eat Keto foods than he does exercising.
If anything, all I've learned is people want an answer/solution to their problem that they can point to. They don't want to say "I live a mundane life regimented by self control." People are quick to jump on religious bandwagons, whether political or fad diets. They just want to be a part of a snake oil esoteric movement because "everything I've bought into can't possibly be fake! Look, this doctor said so! Sure he was paid to promote product X, but why would he lie!" These end up being the same people that turn a blind eye when hearing about a priest that rapes kids.
