Quantum computing deserves hype, but I'd like to see the stupid hype die down. I've heard claims that quantum computers "connect to alternate timeline versions of themselves" and would allow us to communicate with people from parallel universes. I've heard that they'll let you bypass traditional cryptography with such ease that you could steal all of the bitcoins in circulation in an afternoon. I've heard that it could guarantee a lottery win with only 100 picks. A bunch of high-concept nonsense that is simply not what Quantum computing is going to enable.
