I Tried to Make Claims About Election Fraud Trump Fans Wouldn’t Believe
- oblib 5y agoI submitted this because it offers a glimpse, and possibly insight, into what (I think) is a pretty strange and dangerous societal phenomenon.
- NtochkaNzvanova 5y ago> a pretty strange and dangerous societal phenomenon Passing trolling off as journalism? This article amounts to "hey look everyone, I found STUPID PEOPLE!"
- yorwba 5y agoSo some guy trolled his political opponents on Twitter and got a kick out of all the outraged responses he was getting. If there's an insight here, then probably: don't use Twitter; or, if you do use Twitter, don't follow people who troll their political opponents for fun; or, if you do follow such people, don't reply or you might end up egging them on.
- oblib 5y agoWell I'll agree with the "don't use Twitter" advice, but I think it was pretty clear this guy was being satiric, and not really trolling, but instead being "trolled".
- a3n 5y agoThe beauty of being a victim is that you can't lose. The attack is real, and you're a victim. Or the stack is false, and you're a victim of that. You accept no responsibility either way.
- oblib 5y agoI didn't condone what he did, but I think you missed the points, which are how quickly people are willing to embrace a lie, even when it's clearly either trolling or satirical, and the increasing tendency to threaten violence as a response. That's a very serious issue when the number of people who'll do that is as large of a percent of the population as we have now. I'll offer we need to find a way to address this issue or suffer the inevitable consequences.
- jfengel 5y agoIs it my imagination or has TheIntercept (or at least, the subset of it posted on HN) moved rather leftward since Greenwald left? I don't read TheIntercept; I only see it from what gets posted here. From that, I had the impression that most of its articles were of the form "Left-wing media still ignoring this thing I've been harping on about". Is that just a change in what I'm noticing, or has there been an actual change?
- oblib 5y agoI don't read it much either, but I do see headlines from it and those, to me, do look like they're sounding closer to the chorus being sung by the big left media. On the other hand, it also seems Greenwald has moved towards the right. Kind weird seeing him on FOX News. Same with Tulsi Gabbard. Personally, I'd never want to be anywhere near close enough for someone to get even a photo of me and Tucker Carlson together and joining him on his "Show" is pretty much a surefire way for me to lose respect for anyone. Rutger Bregman was a rare exception: https://youtu.be/6_nFI2Zb7qE https://youtu.be/6_nFI2Zb7qE
