From my point of view, that's a bizarre depiction of history.
Tux started the discord, by throwing a rock at Windows? What's that supposed to represent?
I understand about the Halloween memo, though it wasn't Linux that Microsoft was trying to frighten.
And what's with Tux jacking up a penguin to try to make it as tall as Bill? What's that supposed to represent?
Microsoft is always shown as the innocent bystander. Weird.
- rbanffy 15y agoThe worst part? There are people who fall for this.
- mph 15y agoThe worst part is that there are people reading far too much into this. It feels exactly like it was done in the same humour as the IE team sending Mozilla a birthday cake.
- rbanffy 15y agoI agree. It's just a video where a company pushes a distorted vision of the past relationship between said company and the community it's bent on destroying because it's perceived as a threat to its business.
- smackfu 15y agoFall for a distorted retelling of a video they don't have time to watch? Yep.
- jleader 15y agoI didn't intend my comment to be a complete retelling; I was just pointing out some odd things that stood out to me, and asking if anyone else here knew what they might represent.
- jomogalla 15y agoI interpret when Tux threw the rock as Tux trying to get Windows' attention.
- oconnore 15y agoBitter nerds go home. In business and politics you can't get caught up in history. The people in charge are not the same people that offended you, and they may or may not continue that trend. Expecting an international corporation to paint themselves in a bad light is ridiculous. The fact that someone at Microsoft acknowledges Linux's accomplishments and appears to desire a mutually beneficial relationship can only be a good thing for everyone involved. (typed from my Fedora 15 laptop)
- fjarlq 15y agoWhy do you think it can only be a good thing for everyone involved? Do Microsoft's relationships always turn out great for both parties?
- code_duck 15y agoI too perceived it as strange. I expected something cute, but it seemed somewhat manipulative instead.
- mph 15y agoI watched that and saw Tux throwing a pebble, lightly, at the window in a "come out and play" gesture that kids might do. Microsoft then shuts the blinds and Tux wanders off looking slightly upset. A different spin perhaps?
