Almost everyone.
Apart from all the hardline Unionists in Northern Ireland who enthusiastically voted for Brexit and are now crying because they were too dumb to work out that the only place the customs border between the EU and UK could be placed, without breaking the Good Friday agreement, was between the British mainland and Northern Ireland.
More popcorn, please!
- jfengel 5y agoThat's the one thing I genuinely don't understand. The DUP seemed to be working directly against their own interests -- though perhaps that's not surprising given that their interests are contradictory. They were ditched after the next election, and Brexit got done in a way that ran roughshod over them. But had they not partnered with the Tories previously, the entire thing would have gone completely different. So they seem to have engineered their own destruction, to absolutely no benefit to themselves. There was never a good solution to this: the UK has a land border with the EU and you can't wish that away, no matter how much you conceive of "the UK" as an island. But the one set of people who should have figured that out from the beginning were the DUP, and they were the ones who most conspicuously wished for something impossible. I don't get it.
