I'm amazed that eBay doesn't just immediately settle this. They're going to pay millions in attorneys fees to proceed with the court case and it appears there's a 99% chance the court will award eye-watering damages. I'd imagine the Steiners can afford to spend infinite money on their case because of the extreme likelihood that eBay will have to foot the bill at the end in addition to any other amount awarded.
There really doesn't seem to be any wrongdoing or any mistakes made by the Steiner family which exacerbated the situation. The only thing that appears to be worth arguing about is the degree of suffering and an equitable monetary equivalent to that suffering.
