Haiti has been run by crooked thugs in a descending pyramid of power and control. All money was stolen and the population kept in poverty, and with no money they were unable to create a middle class = no industrial revolution from within. The ones in power built clothing factories and a few other. Overseers were cruel = wages and right low, the poor could not elevate up and out.
The DR lacked these crooks and was able to elevate its people.
- Goety 5y agoAFAIK the difference is Haiti massacred basically every white colonist in the region resulting in a US enforcement of owing money to france businesses. US colonists on principle were likely not going to support a slave rebellion fearing similar retribution. But i dont know much on the subject.
- aurizon 5y agoYes,, yet no enforcement of back wages owed to former slaves. This past era left many with dirty hands. California entered the Union with anti-slavery part of their credo.
