Too Spicy for YouTube and Patreon. You Have an Alternative
- pinepage 5y agoIn light of the recent platform bans, the need arises for a platform that upholds free speech and sports a Zero ban policy
- LinuxBender 5y agoI doubt there is a zero-ban platform but happy to be proven wrong. If by spicy you mean adult content, MxR youtubers recently created an OnlyFans account since Youtube recently mass-demonetized about 360 of their videos. Bitchute may be an option for politically heated topics at least for now. Advertisers are steering clear of many topics and that is probably the root of the problem that is creating contention between platforms and their user-base. What agreements does your platform have with investors, advertisers and payment vendors that prevents this conundrum?
- pinepage 5y agoPinePage might be obligated by law to remove illegal content, but we won't remove the user from our platform or demonetize their remaining content. By Spicy we mean controversial in all its expressions. Adult, Explicit, Political, Religious, you name it. As long as it doesn't incite violence and break the laws of our jurisdiction, all content is welcome. PinePage is a monetization platform similar to Patreon and many others, hence the creators' income gets generated by their active supporters as opposed to ad revenue.
- LinuxBender 5y agoIt would be great to have a platform free from censorship. I hope it works out and I wish you the best of luck!
- pinepage 5y agoThanks! Stay tuned for developments
- sempron64 5y agoIt seems like stripe is the only supported payment provider. Generally Patreon and similar services serve as a policy intermediary to the payment providers, and the platform policies are usually driven by payment provider policies against offensive content which the payment provider opposes or other categories at high risk of payments fraud. Platforms such as Patreon and OnlyFans serve as collective bargaining tools due to platform scale and fraud management, allowing users to sell content they would not be able to sell on their own site without being suspended by e.g. PayPal or Stripe. How can Pinepage prevent Stripe from suspending users?
- pinepage 5y agoVery true, payment platforms have their own limitations, but PinePage is in the process of actively developing additional payment integrations such as PayPal and most importantly crypto.
- errantspark 5y agoSeems super niche as the data hosting limits are really low. I post speedruns to youtube sometime and an hour long run can be 20gb+ @ 1440p60. I might post 3 runs in a day if I broke a PR twice for example, that's more content than the premium tier on here created in < 4 hours.
- pinepage 5y agoGood point. You can upload your videos to any platform and restrict access to them. Then embed links to them into your PinePage site similarly to other monetization platforms and grant paid access through membership subscriptions or a one time fee.
- bradknowles 5y agoSo, what about discovery? How do I find out who is currently on PinePage, and what kind of content they are hosting? YouTube, Patreon, OnlyFans — they all have some method of discovery, at least for most content. Where’s your discovery?
- pinepage 5y agoNo discovery function can replace genuine loyal followers' engagement which typically originates on their main social media or streaming service. What we seek to provide is a platform that allows users to profit from that engagement, allow them to build their brand and create a community on their very own website.
