Show HN: Gort is a chatbot framework designed for chatops
- sneak 5y agoI have half-ass implemented stuff like this a half dozen times; I will probably use this one the next time. :)
- ChrisArchitect 5y agoneeds better description than 'chatops' - more like ..framework to implement CLI functionality in chat platforms or something
- rgoulter 5y agoIt's a term I've seen elsewhere. I think the term mostly contrasts to "GitOps" (every action driven by hooking onto Git repositories). I don't think the terms are too self-congratulating. I worked on a team which made use of a chatbot which more/less was a handier way of running Jenkins jobs for releasing. Release progress got updated as messages back to the chat. Was quite neat.
- clockworksoul 5y agoIt's definitely a term that's been in use for a few years, though it's not as widely known as some others. We definitely didn't make it up. :) If you're interested, this might be a good place to start: https://github.com/exAspArk/awesome-chatops https://github.com/exAspArk/awesome-chatops

- 0xbadcafebee 5y agoI really don't want any more frameworks. I just want a chatbot that just freaking works without me having to "build it". You know, kind of like these things called "applications" that some people use on "computers", and don't need to assemble like a poor software developer's IKEA table.
- mulmen 5y agoCan someone give me an example of the “killer app” enabled by chat ops? Our builds and deployments are all automated, I get an email (and a message in a Slack room for some reason) for code reviews. What operational task would I want to do in a chat room with a bot instead of a dedicated web interface or CLI?
- AlphaSite 5y agoI think you could always do it in the UI, but the few use cases I could see this as confined are where approval may be required, e.g. deploy to prod, etc.
- nancyp 5y agoEmojis.
- DoctorOW 5y agoThis specific framework is CLI within Slack. It could be useful for quickly writing a command and having the output be publicly visible. As an anecdotal use of Slack bots, our project reviews (I wasn't on a development team) were entirely on Slack. Building it around Slack helped our internal devs accomplish a working version without having to design their own UIs, auth, notifications, etc. just by leveraging what Slack gives bot creators out of the box.
