What is the summary?
Same as someone else, to read on mobile I have to download and open a pdf so i just cancelled the download and ignored the link
- prox 5y agoWhat is the bump you experience that you don’t want to download and open a pdf? Here it opens in my browser directly (Safari)
- kzrdude 5y agoIt ends up in the downloads folder and needs cleanup later.
- codetrotter 5y agoIn all browsers that I use that is only true if the server sends a Content-Disposition header with its value set to “attachment” (optionally with a file name), or maybe also in the case where the server specifies incorrect or unspecific Content-Type (such as simply “application/octet-stream” instead of “application/pdf”).
- kzrdude 5y agoWhat I said happens for Firefox on android, unfortunately. It's a great browser, of course.
- sharken 5y agoOn the Brave browser for Android it also downloads the PDF file and stores it locally. Websites should use HTML and not PDF in my opinion. On top of that the end result is not very readable on mobile, the font is too small.
- codetrotter 5y ago> [...] Websites should use HTML and not PDF in my opinion. > On top of that the end result is not very readable on mobile, the font is too small. Agreed on both counts. Was only commenting about browsers saving PDFs. PDF is not a comfortable format for reading on a screen. Nor a comfortable format to extract text or data from.
- alisonkisk 5y agoEven on mobile?
- codetrotter 5y agoYes. I use Safari on iOS.
- lucideer 5y agomacos/ios have this built in but not all OSes come with a pdf viewer
- TheFreim 5y agoFor me all my readers (I have multiple on my phone) all can't open the file for some reason.
