The moment they add lidar and breach the only messaging that can be pinned on them "all the car sold have now full self driving hardware"
They don't have any other hard claim to bring into a class action but this
Which is probably why they will prefer to remain in beta forever than changing the hardware
- clouddrover 5y agoIt's already the case that Tesla has gone back on its hardware claims. In 2016 they said all cars being produced have the hardware to enable "full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver": https://www.tesla.com/blog/all-tesla-cars-being-produced-now-have-full-self-driving-hardware https://www.tesla.com/blog/all-tesla-cars-being-produced-now... But now they say the hardware needs to be upgraded and if you want to use the subscription plan you'll have to pay for the hardware upgrade too: https://electrek.co/2021/07/18/tesla-is-charging-owners-1500-for-hardware-they-already-paid-for/ https://electrek.co/2021/07/18/tesla-is-charging-owners-1500... It's a step beyond them getting their original estimate wrong. The explanation is more simple: they lied.
