  They had a problem with child abuse videos not being taking down in a timely manner, which then spiraled into an international PR disaster, and so they ended up removing three quarters of their content to try and get on top of the situation before it got even worse. [0] They did have a problem, with no easy solutions, but the particular one they chose managed to remove their dominance in the area. Shortly followed by OnlyFans and others disrupting the space, means that they've lost the edge they once had.   The NyTimes published (important it was opinion) piece talking about revenge porn, underage content. And it forced pornhub to remove all non verified content so their CC processing didn't get cutoff. Though personally I think the truth is somewhere more in the middle. Obviously illegal content is bad. But the push has been funded by right wing anti-sex, anti-lgbtq orgs and MindGeek does legitimately at least at face value do work to remove illegal content (if anyone works there or has insight that'd be interesting. porn tech is cool imho). versus absolutely nothing as the standard for basically all the rest of the internet.
