California becomes first state to pass a guaranteed income plan
- stevespang 5y agoCommunism at it's finest. Maybe Calif. should just secede and join the PRC or the Russkys ?
- thatsamonad 5y agoThe headline is incredibly misleading as it makes it sound as though it’s a broad UBI measure for all Californians, when in fact the article itself states it is limited to “cash payments to some pregnant women and young adults who recently left foster care”.
- khrbrt 5y ago> “Guaranteed income doesn’t provide the job training and skills needed for upward mobility.” To contrary, it pays for rent and food and the fees needed for job training and higher education. Without it, young people leaving foster care need to take the most immediate minimum wage job they can find to survive. And with the high cost of living in CA, it's difficult to invest the money and time to get something better. If the GOP is serious about job training for upward mobility, they should be pushing for bills to make such training free and with enough of a stipend to pay for rent, food, and transportation.
