Isn't the underlying main problem (censorship), as (nearly) always, growing up along with the size of the society, that is to say mistrust?
I have yet to encounter a small group of people, let's say less than ~15 people (all adult and responsible, children and fools are another matter and must be protected by adults), where someone thinks that others shouldn't access to some content (because they are irrevocably dumb or evil-minded), that he detains the Truth and has to forbid everything he dislikes.
In all huge groups (modern nations) it is the norm. As each one doesn't know most of the citizens, he/she is at best mislead into thinking of them as a bunch of children, and at worse is afraid of them.
Even if many people cannot, for the time being, tackle something useful/necessary (for example to distinguish raw bullshit from consistent information) they may "train" by being exposed to it, thus building some experience (living and dialoging with others will enlighten them).
How may one accept to live among others while thinking that most of them are dumb and unable to learn, or evil-minded? How may one who doesn't think so want to bar them from any content?

Doesn't that fit 90% of small sized companies ?
- natmaka 5y agoIt probably depends upon the definition of "small-sized company" :-) In some companies a form of screening out is in place, barring access to some online material, however it is AFAIK done for economical reasons (avoiding letting company resources used for non-work stuff, avoiding any mistake such as a dubious download, contribution or comment be associated with an IP address rented by the company...), not in order to enforce censorship. Each employee is free to access to whatever he wants... using his own time, computer and network connection.

This is associated with dopamine hit each time authoritarian enacts another restriction and they just want more and more as tolerance builds. It's a slippery slope that will end up badly if we don't stop them early in their tracks. Once the withdrawals get really bad, it's when the army goes on the streets.
