Except true criminals also like to talk.
For example, before Covid I did at lot of Couch Surfing and related stuff. [1] One of my hosts illegally sold MJ for extra cash. He was very careful how he communicated with his supplier and not to flaunt this income. But he basically told me all these things on the first day I met him.

- seibelj 5y agoThe point is, if you are conducting shady business, and your potential customer immediately begins spouting off about all the crimes they have done and how you are now assisting them with their crimes by transacting, you should run away!
- ixacto 5y agoAgreed. 2 of my friends dads growing up successfully grew/sold weed back when it was illegal. Noone went to jail, but there was never any mention of how they got money.
- mc32 5y agoAlso apparently J Epstein told everyone he wanted to impress about all the illegal things he did. He even bamboozled a a greedy bamboozler out of 100MM[1] by telling him how they would make more illegal money and then J Epstein made it disappear from where it would not be retrieved and now this guy is still in jail for all kinds of financial crimes. - imbnwa 5y agoIn my early 20s I was desperate for a roommate after the last one disappeared into the ether. Last minute and desperate, I took on this woman and her partner who turned out to be an ex-con from Florida who gleefully googled his prison photo in front of me and recanted tales of days gone by, both prior to and during his prison stint. He tried stealing one of my hard drives on their way out after multiple domestic calls over the course of a summer and said "Oh I thought it was one of mine" as an excuse
- franga2000 5y agoTo be fair, that's barely a crime. Maybe not legally in many places, but still, selling weed is a far cry from the crimes KYC was established because of.
- CRConrad 5y ago> Except true criminals also like to talk. So what? Just cut out the "assume that you are dealing with an actual cop" bit. What you're saying is no argument against the GP's > Whenever someone tells you about All the Crime They Are Doing, I think you should [...] stop doing business with them, and cut off all contact. Unless you're saying one's goal should just be to avoid sting operations, but not to avoid abetting or participating in actual crimes?
