I built Hangswith to help make it easy to book a 1 on 1 zoom call with R Statistics experts. I hope to expand it into other fascinating/fun/useful/nerdy subcultures (like chess and music) - so if you're awesome at something, please consider creating a profile and setting some times you're available to be booked. (or if you have ideas for categories or people, do let me know!) It's built with rails and heroku in my spare time over the past 12 months. The idea came to me when I was stuck at home during covid lockdown and wanted to take a "digital holiday" (since I couldn't take a real one). I figured booking a chess grandmaster for an hour over zoom would be pretty awesome, but I couldn't find their contact info, had to negotiate a price, and had to find a time (I'm Australian Eastern and he is US Eastern time, so even that necessitated multiple back-and-forth emails - annoying and time consuming). This was all via email. There *had* to be an easier way. So that weekend I got to work building. After some beta testing, it's officially launching with this post! I'm incredibly grateful for any questions or feedback you have! NB - you may wonder: why statisticians if the original idea was chess? It's because I spend my days working in statistics and therefore it's the community I know best, and people tend to benefit a lot from mentorship in statistics/AI. But I am really aiming to get some top chess talent on board soon too.
