Surprised nobody has mentioned ProtonDrive[0] as a near future candidate for eliminating these types of incidents. Since the data is encrypted, ProtonDrive can't make arbitrary value judgements on your data. For me personally I can't wait for it to arrive so I can wean myself off Google properly. It's the one final thing that I need to replace Google with: Proper Encrypted Cloud Storage.

- DeathMetal3000 5y agoSync.com already exists and is e2ee. Why people keep using non e2ee services and get outraged when their data is misused I can’t understand.
- m-p-3 5y agoYou could go the decentralized way and host a document on IPFS. Once the document is out there and pinned by nodes (and cached by gateways in periods of high demand), it's gonna be difficult to take it down.
- kylehotchkiss 5y agoI have been holding out for protondrive for a few years myself. It’s going to take them time to build out more apps for native integration. I wonder how the performance will be with the focus so heavily on keeping data in Switzerland. In the meantime I tried out Tresorit which is end to end encrypted and which worked fine for several years but they were acquired by Swiss post whose intentions I don’t understand. I’m now working on closing Tresorit and adopting boxcryptor. Price is really nice and it can end to end encrypt files in iCloud Drive which proves to be fast for me wherever I use it around the world.
