This is the type of change we need to celebrate in people not further scrutinize!
As a Jew I would love to create dialogue with a person who realized the past hate was unjust, to hear why the hate existed and more importantly to understand what opened their eyes.
It is that process that will help eliminate hate across the board. Today as a society we approach discrimination through censorship and cancel culture which unfortunately will not solve deep rooted hate.

- philipswood 5y agoThere a bit in there to offend anyone and everyone. While making every effort to balance every point of his stance he adds extremes that's likely to offend someone on either side of his position. He does this for sex, politics and religion. All in all it comes across as quite tone deaf. I don't want people not to have authentic unwashed opinions or not to have the right to air them, but posting this publicly seems a bit Ill advised for someone whose job description requires a high degree of political awareness and imagine it's a bit of a PR nightmare.
- refenestrator 5y agoConsider that he grew up in the Arab world on one side of a conflict. What if he were Palestinian? Are all of them unwelcome at Google if they had an unmoderated thought in their lives?
- andrewzah 5y agoPeople say a lot of things when they're fed propaganda. It's arrogant to assume that you or I wouldn't say or think problematic things if we were fed propaganda our entire lives from our community, etc, and didn't interact with other people. In other words, being ignorant. Things like racism are largely defeated through education. We don't know the full story here with this guy, but it's certainly possible for people to hold bigoted beliefs at one point in their life and then change views after becoming more knowledgeable. A large portion of people act like once someone says something, their belief will never ever change and thus are irredeemable to society. I'm sure that's good for society in the long run. /s

- skinkestek 5y agoAs someone who has said and thought a lot of cringeworthy stuff it is easy to read it and understand him. Furthermore I guess, but this is just a guess, that most of those who aren't aware of a lot of really cringeworthy stuff in their past haven't really "seen themselves" yet.
- josh_today 5y agoIt’s a long read, so far I have skimmed through it and find his points honest and not hurtful. Anything in specific you saw?
- brodouevencode 5y agoShowing grace for past sins is crucial for a heterogenous society to operate well. Let the guy be honest and open, it may encourage others to do the same and acknowledge differences.
- UncleMeat 5y ago> As a Jew I would love to create dialogue with a person who realized the past hate was unjust, to hear why the hate existed and more importantly to understand what opened their eyes. There were opportunities for this to happen with this person. They did not go great.
