When it comes to the Covid19 vaccine, we were all being fed fear every day on how the vaccine was rushed, and how some were the first of their kind, untested long-term. And a lot of people decided to take it anyway, because a one percent mortality rate is an unacceptable risk to most.
Some quick googling shows that in 1940, there were 235k reported smallpox cases [2] with a world population of 2.3b [1]. 235k * 0.3 mortality rate = 70.5k. 2.3b / 70.5k = 32624. So if you were alive in the year 1940, you had a 1/9787 chance to have smallpox, and a 1/32624 chance to get, and pass away from smallpox.
1/32624 chance to die of smallpox in 1940, versus a 1/500000 (worst case scenario) chance to die of the smallpox vaccine. They can call the vaccine whatever they want. The flaws of any vaccine should be scrutinized under the public eye, but I'll always take the better odds when it comes to risking my life - and I'd assume a lot of us are here today because earlier generations of their own family had similar sentiment towards self-preservation.
