No ovaries required: viable eggs grown in a dish
- toomuchtodo 5y agoI’m excited for these developments for two reasons: 1. People who, for whatever reason, have defective or non functional reproductive tissue generation (eggs or sperm) will be able to have this tissue synthesized on demand. Being semi or totally sterile becomes inconvenient, not a forgone conclusion. 2. Permanent birth control (tubes removed or a vasectomy) doesn’t carry the irreversible weight it does now, which makes it more attractive to folks who really, really don’t want kids currently but are fearful of regret in the future. In short, more options are better.

- redis_mlc 5y agoJust so HN readers understand what alternate reproductive methods mean in 2021: 1) US current society is a gynocracy. Their fantasy is to reproduce without men ("I don't need no man.") 2) Women are bragging about being single moms on social media ... if it's a baby girl. Otherwise, it's an abortion. 3) IVF is usually a failure, with 5% or less success rate per implant, and huge bills ($20k to $150k.) Even if the implant takes, it's still considered to be a high-risk "geriatric pregnancy" for women over 35 yo. The above is what the collapse of Western society looks like.
