Does anyone else find NYT's more recent puzzles easier to solve? I do (or rather, try to do) the NYT crossword every day, and I've noticed that my solve times are several minutes faster for recent puzzles than the more vintage puzzles. (in the NYT Crossword app you can go back to 1993 right now). I don't think it's due to the obscure knowledge of the time (i.e. cultural references that were more top of mind then than now), just that the clues seem more challenging across the board. My solve times for Mondays of today are around 9-10 minutes, but on the puzzles from the 90's they're closer to 15, and sometimes over 20 minutes... more like a Wednesday.
I also find it gratifying to do the older, pre-internet age puzzles where the internet lingo (OMG, LOL) and brands (Etsy , Ebay) are missing.
