You see, drugs that are effective have to make Pharm a lot of money (refer to Aduhelm). Ivermectin is a cheap generic drug that isn't going to make Pharm a lot of money, so it's not effective.
The problem with these discussions of effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis is that people misunderstand who we're optimizing for - Pharm or the public.
- infamouscow 5y agoThe vaccine manufacturers are also some of the biggest advertisers in media. Does anyone really believe the media companies are going to report anything that paints Pfizer in a negative light?
- acdha 5y agoOne look at the Aducanumab coverage is sufficient to show that journalists have no problem reporting negative news about big companies. Ivermectin isn’t getting positive coverage because there isn’t good evidence that it works. Contrast with the cheap steroids which uncontroversially became a standard treatment because the science showed efficacy.
- eynsham 5y agoThis seems needlessly conspiratorial. Dexamethasone’s utility in treating Covid-19 was found by a top-notch RCT (Recovery). It is also quite cheap. ‘Pharm’ (presumably you mean scientists sceptical of ivermectin) made no noise about that.
- yehosef 5y agoIf it seems conspiratorial does that mean it's not true?
- yehosef 5y agoDoctors are refusing to use Ivermectin because they can get in trouble with the medical boards for prescribing an unapproved covid treatment. https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2021/06/16/clinic-raided-for-offering-ivermectin-to-covid-19-patients/ https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2021/06/16... https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/92415 https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/9241... Who's running the disinformation campaign?
- shaicoleman 5y agoBefore that RCT, any doctor that recommended using steroids was ridiculed and labelled as spreading medical disinformation. It's a miracle that the Recovery RCT showed any statistical significant benefit, due to the low doses and the short durations that were used there. After that RCT, and even a year later, health authorities are still recommending the same anaemic doses, despite evidence showing that pulsing higher doses of methylprednisolone saves lives in severe cases. https://youtu.be/LkIKCbwBcLU?t=822 https://youtu.be/LkIKCbwBcLU?t=822
