Adding to this - I did interviews for about six months and I don't think I ever saw a candidate who had a significant side project or open source contributions (at least not in the last couple years). It signals a potentially strong candidate, but I'd never weeded out someone for not having it.
- datavirtue 5y agoI stopped talking about them because no one ever cares. Removed from resume and everything. So it's a bit hard to tell if I have side projects, you would have to ask. Nearly all of my skills are from side projects.
