I can include my input here. I recently found a gig through a side project. This happened in Berlin and had the option to say no when companies wanted to do a whiteboard interview / leetcode.
In Germany, I think I'm supposed to ask my employer for permission on if I can continue working on this or not, so we'll see!

- i_don_t_know 5y agoYour employment contract should say if and when you need to ask your employer. Aside from that, you also need to worry about Arbeitnehmererfindungsgesetz: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/arbnerfg/ https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/arbnerfg/ Especially if you intend to make money off of it.
