I think it's the new version of starting a war. Similarly, it's completely unconscionable that someone would start a war and send thousands or millions of their own people to kill other people and/or die for any reason other than to stop some massively worse event from happening, but our presidents do it constantly. It was only 12 years before my birth that the US stopped forcing 18 year olds to join the military and fight overseas and we've started & joined in plenty of non-necessary wars since then. Nothing is off limits when unlimited power & financial gain are at stake, I guess.
