There Will Be Wind
- sutro 18y agoThe complicated relationship between the town of Lowville and wind power described in this article seems analogous to the arrival of oil drilling to the small California town depicted in "There Will Be Blood." History may repeat itself in some of the new energy implementations, as many in favor of clean energy in the abstract put up Not In My Back Yard opposition to local clean energy projects.
- noonespecial 18y ago"We want clean energy as much as anyone," says Leviker, who rejected a $1,500 payment from the wind company for the disruption of her view. "But we also want quality of life." But really I'd like someone else's kids to die in a coal mine somewhere far from here so that I can watch "The Price is Right" without, you know, having to actually look at what it takes to make the power I use. NIMBY is the biggest fundamental hurdle to renewable energy that we face. The technical constraints pale utterly by comparison.
