My own institution, a government lab, uses the same naming system (IC1 through IC6) with management also done similarly to what is shown here (M3-M6 at least, not sure about M7). And ICs are slotted into certain disciplines just as here (e.g., for us, Mechanical vs. Optical engineers). And also with the same matrices. The framework is just the same, with the same griping about the language being slippery among those who use it ;-). It was converted into the number/matrix setup from the earlier system with Senior, etc., some years ago.
