Delta-8-THC craze concerns chemists
- morpheos137 5y agoMy understanding is that similar form similar function controlled substance analogues are generally also controlled. They have to be a very close analogue though. For example salvinorum is not controlled but LSD is because they are chemically and functionally worlds apart but if you made an LSD substitute that only differed by a few atoms and activated the same receptors I believe, in the USA at least, it would be illegal. Second is the issue of unregulated chemicals as the article brings up. This is also true of e-cigaretes. Neither ecigs nor a broad class of other ingestible chemicals like vitamins or herbal suplements lie in the FDA baliwick because they are neither considered food nor drug. This is a problem. Last on a deep dive on the web several years ago I found some evidence that seemed to link ecigs to unsavory characters like for example possibly to the "process church of the final judgement." I am nowhere near certain about the validity of this link. It is probably bullshit but the point stands that anyway since they are unregulated ecig juice and other such things could be used for nefarious ends... Government is lying down on the job by not regulating these things.
