I think one area where cryptocurrency can have a significant positive impact is news media. If a browser extension based cryptocurrency wallet, like MetaMask, ever integrates a highly scalable payment system that makes micro-transactions economical, using some combination of the available scalability constructs, whether that's a zk-Rollup, zk-Porter, Optimistic Rollup, a sidechain like Polygon or xDai Chain, or state-channels, and this browser extension becomes ubiquitous, it would allow content providers to charge users on a per page basis, with almost zero friction for the user to make the payment. This would allow content providers to be compensated from a far larger subsection of the population, and correspondingly, allow a far larger subsection of the population to consume paywalled content.
