Indian politicians took that line. They assumed that covid was gone, done and dusted. Some coming from the folds of the ruling party believed rolling in cow manure or cow piss would give us enough protection and trees will give enough oxygen. Then the second wave hit. Drone pictures of thousands and thousands of dead bodies abandoned in shallow graves (the majority religion cremates, but crematoriums could not cope with the rate of arrivals) on sandbars of rivers is ample testimony to how dangerous it is. If it wasnt one would have seen such level of excess mortality and sand burials as routine. The government of course wanted to cover it up. They arrested and jailed people who were seeking medical oxygen on social media. The public was being openly threatened that they will be slapped with antiterror laws should they do that (till the supreme court stepped in). The government removed the commemorative shrouds placed on this shallow graves so that the extent of these deaths could not be counted.
