I once had to watch a startup skimp on dev hardware, only to splurge on 'launch' parties and (no kidding) billboards... The founder, a marketing major, had a hard time explaining things to their investor once the inevitable end was clear. I'd ask the question: why wouldn't a company trust the developers' specs for adequate hardware?
