- andai 5y agoI've heard it described as "Scheme in C's clothing." I remember reading something about how that's a misconception, but I can't recall where. On that note, does anyone have any resources or stories about Self? [0] (The language from which JS inherited prototypal inheritance.) - goatlover 5y agoIO was closer to Self as a language than JS, since JS combined the prototypal inheritance with Java-like syntax, making things confusing. But Self was an evolution of Smalltalk (replace classes with prototypes), so the live programming using a GUI running inside the Self VM was part of the deal, instead of writing to files in your editor of choice.

- andai 5y agoI found Brendan Eich's article: > Ok, back to JavaScript popularity. We know certain Ajax libraries are popular. Is JavaScript popular? It’s hard to say. Some Ajax developers profess (and demonstrate) love for it. Yet many curse it, including me. I still think of it as a quickie love-child of C and Self. Dr. Johnson‘s words come to mind: “the part that is good is not original, and the part that is original is not good.” https://brendaneich.com/2008/04/popularity/ https://brendaneich.com/2008/04/popularity/
