I don’t think it helps to gatekeep like this. I can order a pizza and travel to foreign countries alone, but I have nearly been fired for my inability to initiate friendly conversation with leaders of other teams at work. I have agonized for 30 minutes to write three sentences for friendly ‘let’s have coffee’ emails. Maybe that’s not debilitating per se, but with the right timing it could have destroyed my career, ability to afford living expenses etc.
