Sass, Less and CoffeeScript come to Visual Studio 2010
- statictype 15y agoIf anyone knows, are there command-line tools available to compile the files? I develop on Windows but primarily use Vim to edit. I'd like to be able to generate css/javascript from sass/coffeescript without having to use Visual Studio 2010.
- moomin 15y agoCommand line tools are also pretty vital if you're using a build server. Speaking as a Coffeescript loving developer at a Windows shop, this could be fabulous.
- scotth 15y agoYes, there are. You can also have the compilers watch the filesystem for changes, building whenever required. That comes in handy.
- bitdiffusion 15y agoOn the CoffeeScript side of things I have heard good things about https://github.com/alisey/CoffeeScript-Compiler-for-Windows https://github.com/alisey/CoffeeScript-Compiler-for-Windows which doesn't require cygwin afaik.
- MatthewPhillips 15y agoI'd caution against using this port. I had on a couple of occasions my files get emptied from using it. Probably user error but still.
- philbo 15y agoAnother option could be to install the ViEmu extension and get the benefit of vi key bindings in Visual Studio itself.
- Cixelyn 15y agoI've successfully used jCoffeeScript in my projects: https://github.com/yeungda/jcoffeescript https://github.com/yeungda/jcoffeescript Best thing is that the whole jar is self-contained. Nothing is required except for java, which eliminates the headache of installing cygwin and node on windows. java -jar jcoffeescript-1.1.jar < foo.coffee > foo.js For sass, the easiest way is to just install ruby on windows and then install the sass gem, which will give you access to the sass command.

- davidf18 15y agoThere is also a NuGet package/library for Visual Studio entitled SassAndCoffee. Which method is preferable? http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2011/07/12/sassandcoffee-hits-1-0/ http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2011/07/12/sassandcoffee...
- smhinsey 15y agoAdditionally, there's Chirpy, which seems to be broadly the same set of features, minus intellisense. http://chirpy.codeplex.com/ http://chirpy.codeplex.com/
