Interesting that it's a Jewish university in Israel that has developed this method for [apparently] making transplanted pig organs not be rejected by the human body.
I wonder what Judaism has to say about having pork transplants?
- raincom 5y agoMany Islamic scholars say it is haram(forbidden).
- lifeplusplus 5y agothere is always medical exception

- redis_mlc 5y agoThe Islamic world knows they can get a supply of unlimited human organs from China. Even better, the organs are halal, since they're from Uighur (Muslim) prisoners, and they come with a guaranteed replacement warranty if they fail! (The national hospital system in China is funded from forced human organ transplants. It started with Falun Gong prisoners, but has expanded to more religions.)
- Philadelphia 5y agoTotally acceptable. The restriction is only on eating non-kosher foods (basically), not anything else related to them. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10618731/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10618731/ Even if that weren’t the case, saving a life takes precedence over almost all other laws in Judaism (exceptions are murder, incest, and idolatry), so it would be allowed under that.
- redis_mlc 5y agoWell, the reason pigs are not kosher is because they carry parasites/diseases that are dangerous in humans because of how similar pigs and humans are biologically (hence swine flu, etc.) (In my family, we accounted for that by cooking a few extra minutes on the infrequent occasion we cooked pork. I personally don't eat bacon.) So it's odd that one would get a transplant (raw pig organ) from a pig. Maybe somebody can expand on that.
