Ask HN: What is your five-website Internet?
Am I the only one who seems to spend 95% of my time on the same five websites? In an effort to expand my Internet horizons, I'd love to know what your "five-website Internet" looks like. Mine is:
1. New York Times
2. Ars Technica
3. Hacker News
4. IGN Movies
5. Redfin (for real estate fantasizing...)
I'm leaving out work-related websites, but with them, Gmail, Github, and Slack would be number 1, 2, and 3.
- sp332 5y ago1999: there are millions of websites all hyperlinked together 2019: there are four websites, each filled with screenshots of the other three. https://twitter.com/badnetworker/status/1133363823728091136?lang=en https://twitter.com/badnetworker/status/1133363823728091136?... (not quite a screenshot but in the same spirit)
- RosanaAnaDana 5y agoReddit, Hackernews, Youtube, Craigslist, ... Honestly, reddit sucks but there isn't really another option that is some-how hotter garbage than reddit. I really don't want to chase content around the internet, so I tend more towards the aggregators. I also like garage sales.

- muzani 5y agoDoes Google count? If it doesn't because of external links, how would Reddit or HN count? Do people frequently hang around Ask HN or the self contained subreddits?
- sp332 5y agoReddit and HN are popular for the communities and comments.
- abhijat 5y agofinancial times, hacker news, reddit. Although a much larger chunk of time is spent on the first compared to next two combined.

- seanicus 5y agoLetterboxd, Twitter, HN (my life would be much better off without Twitter and my work productivity would be somewhat better off w/o HN). Greatest internet quality of life increase would be if I did away with all 3 of those and just reached for a book or my e-reader when I needed to be entertained.
- _benj 5y agoI’ve tried reaching for a book /kindle when I needed to be entertained without success, or taking so much effort to start it that the habit hasn’t stayed. Was there something that helped you on that? Some type of book/etc.?
- seanicus 5y agoIt's hard. I love that the kindle app is on iphone and syncs w the ereader... but really the best thing is to keep the reader on my person. Kind of pushes me into the thought of "I'm lugging this thing around I had better use it." Works better with an actual book but I'm a sucker for the kindle.
