News Corp gives up on its ‘Knewz’ aggregator after 18 months
- throwawaysea 5y agoI think it is important to be wary of bias from big Silicon Valley companies and to have healthy competition in this space. However, I've never even heard of Knewz prior to today and would have been willing to give it a shot to see how it works. I know it's anecdotal but given that this was totally off my radar, I feel like they may not have successfully marketed this and built a presence to test the idea's viability well.
- weare138 5y agoSame here, never even heard of this site.
- teawrecks 5y agoNever heard of it either. But "Knewz" gives off serious "hello fellow kids" vibes. Also, yeah google and Facebook absolutely have bias, but the name "News Corp" just feels way too on the nose.
- meepmorp 5y agoAnecdata: there was an article about it linked here when it launched, or maybe a bit after. I completely forgot about it till now, and I only remember seeing it because I thought the name was especially stupid. I wonder if they did any marketing at all.
- canadianfella 5y ago> Anecdata There’s no reason to ever start a sentence with that.
- andrewmcwatters 5y agoNews for Kidz!
- thundergolfer 5y agoThe 6 “world’s most trusted news sources” linked by Knewz in its farewell message say it all. This was an aggregator for right-wing boomers with a ‘fellow kids’ name. I’d suspect this was a minor pawn in News Corp’s battle against Google, as the article notes.
