Apparently there's iOS software that can do this. It generates the RF signals using the speakers(!).
- ggm 5y agoJava code does this with coiled headphones. I liked the idea of the pi build out and have it in a cigar box. I ran the Java and it works. It's easy to coil the headphones lead around a watch too.
