Unfortunately there's a lot of truth in this. It is rather fashionable to be anti-GOP. As much as I loathe the current state of the party, they are not always wrong and on most traditional stances, especially those on the economic and foreign policy side, I tend to agree. That is to say you have company here in seeing that a countering point of view gets crapped on just for being a countering point of view.
- objectivetruth 5y agoI think maybe the downvotes come because people on the left and in the middle of the spectrum are just very tired of hearing right-wingers characterize left-center rejection of right-wing thought as "censorship." Whether that's a bottom-up community rejecting conservative thought via downvoting, or a top-down progressive CEO rejecting that thought via edict, we're just tired of hearing about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody's been getting kicked off Facebook or Twitter for discussing Edmund Burke or the ideal capital gains tax rate. I think it's usually more like swastikas or outright calls for violence against sitting politicians or "ignore your doctor and drink this fishtank cleaner!" type stuff. And those folks still have PLENTY of sites where they can go share their swastikas and plan their violence and whatnot.
- azinman2 5y agoExcept it's massively upvoted on Facebook and other platforms. Study after study has shown the most viral political stories with the most engagement align with conservative politics. So it's just not true that this censorship is pervasive. I think it's just a handful of cases of 'censorship', like Alex Jones and Trump, which have lead to actual violence violating obvious terms of service, that is all the right can point to. But really it's bigger than that -- they need a new boogieman. Big tech is that because most of the winners from tech aren't the GOP-base, so it's easy to bash on. And banning Trump has got them all riled up even if there's no truth to the systematic bias beyond him specifically. In fact social media has largely propelled Trump and others into the spotlight in the first place.
