Google's 'hypocritical' remote work policies anger employees
- clipradiowallet 5y agoThe idea that one day your team receives a mandate to (1) move across the country, and (2) take a 15%, wait no 25%, paycut... I thought the dream of working at google was high pay and white-gloves treatment. This doesn't seem very considerate of the employees at all.
- qmarchi 5y agoSo, from another Googler's perspective, I haven't felt like there's been much confusing messaging being sent out. We got "You're coming back to the office on Sept. 1st" last year, and we got We're working on a request form for remote work" this year. The form went live late last month. As someone who recently change positions during COVID, I despise not working from an office with my co-workers. Onboarding has been hell, and I feel like I'm not able to work at my best because I don't have the resources to do so. Notably, Nooglers who onboard wouldn't have access to the on-site expertise from senior engineers if everyone was WFH. I get the some people like WFH, and some other can onboard, but that's not everyone. Plus, free food is nice...
- DataJunkie 5y agoSomeone always has to bring up food as a good reason to go the office. For me, no amount of Google food is going to convince me to choose onsite work over remote or a more reasonable hybrid.
- mk81 5y agoPeople who like WFH are becoming like vegans.
- llampx 5y agoHybrid working seems like the worst of both worlds. You get to need a working space in your home, so you need a bigger apartment if you're not single and especially if you have kids, and you can't just move to a lower COL suburb or exurb because you still need to commute half the time. Sounds horrible. My preference? Either full remote or nothing.
