Pretty much. The FIRE movement is very popular, even in other developing countries like India. Very few people want to work a 9-5 for the majority of their lives. The idea about this being defiancy in China is the only real difference, I guess. In other (not as authoritarian) countries, this is just a personal choice, not a political statement. Things like these getting banned from social media seems pretty absurd.
