1998: Open Season with Mozilla, W3C’s DOM, and WaSP
- brudgers 5y agoIt was effectively the end of Netscape. On November 24, 1998, America Online (AOL) announced it would acquire the struggling browser company in a deal worth US$4.2 billion. Silicon Valley loves to spin this story of founders seeing a multi-billion dollar exit (what's that in today's dollars?) gets spun as a cautionary tale. It's anti-Microsoft boyism taken to absurdity. Or to put it another way, Viaweb by comparison sold for "dip-shit" money to Yahoo.
